The third gate of Valletta built in 1953 is known by many names, Porta Reale, Putirjal, Kingsgate and Kingsway. The design was done by Col. Thompson of the Royal Engineers, where he included two statues on either side of Philippe Villiers de L-Isle-Adam, the first Grand Master in Malta and Jean Parisot de Valette, the founder of Valletta.
